ROCHESTER, NY, October 8, 2025<\/strong> – On Sunday, October 5, more than 230 people participated in EPI’s One in 26 Challenge, presented by Integrated Systems<\/a>, at Seneca Park in Rochester, NY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Mother Nature cooperated with a really nice day and the turn out was fantastic! Today we saw a record crowd and we thank everyone who chose to make us a part of their Sunday morning,” says EPI President and CEO Jeff Sinsebox.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A group of outstanding volunteers helped make the day possible, staffing a series of fun events including a 32′ inflatable obstacle course, face painting, coloring, pumpkin decorating, and a 1939 fire truck display courtesy of the Ridge-Culver Fire Association. At 9:00 am, attendees participated in a one-mile group walk around the park and then returned to the Longhouse Shelter for more activities. Guests also received a free ticket to visit the Seneca Park Zoo right up the road!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

SPECIAL GUEST<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rochester City Deputy Mayor and EPI board member Mike Burns<\/a> helped kick off the day, explaining that events like the One in 26 Challenge annually help send more than 100 children and adults to Camps EAGR <\/a>and COAST<\/a>, provide four college scholarships<\/a> to graduating high school seniors, support more than 100 families coping with epilepsy at the Strong Epilepsy Center, and send three families to Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland<\/a> held in October in California.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

WHAT’S IN A NAME?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event name acknowledges a significant statistic that one in 26 people will have a seizure at some point in their life. Yet, even with this prevalence, epilepsy remains a widely misunderstood disease and unfortunately carries a social stigma. EPI strives to support individuals and families dealing with an epilepsy diagnosis with opportunities such as overnight camps, learning to swim programs, Teen Weekends, and other social and education events.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

CONNECTION & EDUCATION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Epilepsy can be an incredibly isolating and scary experience,” says Epilepsy Education & Camp Director Mike Radell. “Through the programs we host, people with epilepsy make connections and learn that they are not alone. We also educate the general public through hundreds of epilepsy education sessions<\/a> at schools, businesses and community groups across Upstate and Central New York.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
